1.d4 According to Dreev - Fight the Grunfeld Defence
GM Alexey Dreev and GM Pier Luigi Basso
Welcome to the second course in our 1.d4 According to Dreev series: 1.d4 According to Dreev - Fight the Gruenfeld Defence. In this database, GM Alexey Dreev and GM Pier Luigi Basso delve into one of the most theory-intensive openings in chess: the Gruenfeld Defense. We remind you that the first course from the series is 1.d4 According to Dreev - Fight the King's Indian.
The Gruenfeld Defense is a unique battleground where knowledge and preparation can determine over half of your success. As Dreev explains, even a strong Grandmaster will struggle to find an edge against a well-prepared Gruenfeld player. However, with the right preparation, even an intermediate player can challenge the world’s best. In this course, the focus is on finding fresh ideas that maximize the challenges for Black, even in well-explored positions. Dreev introduces numerous early-stage novelties to keep opponents out of their comfort zones.
The starting position of the course arises after the moves 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.g3 Bg7 4.Bg2 0-0 5.Nf3 d5 6.0-0
The Fianchetto System is one of the most annoying lines for the Grunfeld players. In this variation, White often manages to reduce Black's dynamic possibilities which are so important for the Grunfeld players. Besides, this opening choice is very much in line with Dreev's suggestion in the course 1.d4 According to Dreev - Fight the King's Indian.
This course includes:
- 15 theoretical chapters, covering a complete repertoire against the Gruenfeld.
- Two model games with insightful commentary from GM Dreev.
- 30 practical exercises designed to deepen your understanding and help you retain key variations.
- Memory Booster for reinforcing essential ideas and patterns.
- A Video Version (5h and 16 min Video Running Time)
