Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to attend live sessions?
No. All live sessions are recorded and available within 24 hours. However, live attendance allows you to ask questions during Q&A segments and engage directly with instructors. Many members attend live when possible and watch recordings when schedules conflict.
What time are the live sessions?
Sessions are scheduled at European evenings (typically 17:30-21:00 CET), which accommodates most time zones. The exact schedule is published at the start of each month. All times are shown in both CET and your local timezone in the member portal.
How is this different from your regular courses?
Modern Chess offers high-quality courses covering all stages of the game—opening, middlegame, and endgame. What makes the Academy different is the interactive and structured approach. What level do I need to be?
The Academy is designed for ambitious players at all levels. While the content is high-quality and in-depth, you don't need to be 2000+ rated to benefit. How does Inside Your Games work?
Every month, active Academy members can submit up to 2 games in PGN format to chessacademy@modern-chess.com. GM Papaioannou selects 15 instructive games across different rating levels and creates detailed video analysis (approximately 4 hours total). Your games are completely anonymized—only rating and color are shown. The course is published the following month and is FREE for all members who had an active membership during the submission month.
How does the Mentorship Program work?
Available only to 6-month plan members. You'll complete an intake form detailing your chess background, goals, and weaknesses. We assign you a titled mentor based on this information. You have a 30-minute kickoff call to establish your development plan, then monthly 30-minute check-ins. Submit games throughout the month for analysis. Your mentor tracks your progress and adjusts recommendations as you improve.
