This May, the Tactical Thursday series continues with an exceptional new edition led by elite Indian grandmaster and coach GM Swapnil Dhopade. This time, the focus is on Combinational Vision and Spotting Silent Moves—a topic that explores how great tacticians combine threats with calm, quiet moves that often decide the game.

In sharp positions, it’s easy to get carried away by flashy tactics. But often, the most powerful ideas are the least expected—non-forcing moves that increase pressure, disrupt coordination, or set subtle traps.

Through carefully selected examples, GM Dhopade will teach you how to:

• Identify the right moment to switch from calculation to intuition

• Recognize and set up quiet, unexpected moves that change the evaluation

• Use intermediate and “between” moves to outmaneuver opponents

• Blend threats into positional play for maximum practical impact

This edition is perfect for players who want to improve their creativity, broaden their tactical horizon, and become more confident in spotting non-obvious winning ideas.

As usual, the lectures will be held over two Thursdays – 08.05 and 15.05, with two sessions each day. After each lecture, participants receive 10 test positions to solve on their own. At the end of the camp, we provide a full PGN file with all test positions and detailed solutions—a great resource for independent training.

Tactical Thursday is part of the Modern Chess Academy, meaning all academy members receive free access to the live lectures and the full digital product to be released after the camp.
