GM Grigor Grigorov continues the long-term training concept in March 2026 — Repertoire Builder: Réti for White – Fundamental Structures after 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3.
This edition represents the natural continuation of the Opening Builder journey. After establishing the foundations against 1…d5, we now enter one of the most flexible and strategically rich move orders in modern chess. The sequence 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3 opens the door to Catalan structures, Queen’s Gambit formations, and subtle move-order battles that define contemporary positional play.
March 2026 – Fundamental Structures after 1.Nf3 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3
These positions are deeply connected to classical central tension. White aims for long-term pressure, harmonious development, and strategic flexibility, while Black must carefully choose between …d5 setups, …Bb4 systems, or dynamic central reactions. The richness of these structures lies not in memorised theory, but in understanding recurring plans, pawn breaks, and piece coordination.
As in every Opening Builder module, theory is intentionally reduced to what is structurally necessary. The goal is not to overload you with variations, but to teach you how to navigate transpositions intelligently and reach positions that fit your strategic style.
A central idea of this month’s camp is move-order awareness. Small differences in timing — when to play d4, when to castle, when to provoke …d5 — often determine the character of the middlegame. By understanding these nuances, you gain control over the direction of the game rather than reacting passively to your opponent’s setup.
This training is ideal for players who want a flexible, strategically grounded Réti repertoire that can smoothly transpose into Catalan and Queen’s Gambit structures without becoming dependent on heavy memorisation.

June & July – Repertoire Construction Phase
With a strong structural foundation in place, the final phase focuses on:
• Choosing concrete move orders

• Minimizing theory through intelligent transpositions
• Assembling a complete, coherent 1.Nf3 repertoire
This phase transforms understanding into a ready-to-play system suitable for long-term competitive use.

🔥 Why Opening Builder Matters
Opening Builder is not about “winning the opening.”
It is about entering the middlegame with understanding — knowing what you are playing for and why your position makes sense.
By the end of six months, participants do not simply know lines. They possess a living repertoire, grounded in structures, adaptable to change, and resilient against theoretical trends.
This is opening preparation — the Modern Chess way.
