Tactical Thursday: December Focus - Endgame Calculation and the Method of Elimination
GM Swapnil Dhopade leads the December edition of Tactical Thursday with a highly practical and impactful theme — endgame calculation and the method of elimination.
A central idea of this camp is that many endgames can be played almost entirely on calculation. Young players with strong calculating abilities often win endgame after endgame — even without deep theoretical knowledge — because the endgame is far more calculation-based than most players realize.
The second part of the camp focuses on the method of elimination, one of the most powerful and time-saving calculation techniques. Instead of searching for a brilliant move, the player systematically eliminates inferior options until only the correct move remains. This method enhances clarity, reduces errors, and significantly optimizes time management.
GM Dhopade will show how strong players use these calculation principles in pawn endings, minor-piece endings, and simplified rook endings, transforming complex positions into concrete and solvable tasks.
