Petroff, Caro-Kann, and French - Practical Repertoire for White
GM Baadur Jobava and GM Pier Luigi Basso
Baadur Jobava and Pier Luigi Basso keep building their 1.e4 repertoire. This time, they focus on three very important openings - Petroff Defence, French Defence, and Caro-Kann Defence. Just like the previous databases, this course will provide you with original, practical, and not well-investigated lines. Armed with all the fresh concepts and interesting novelties, you will definitely pose huge practical problems to your opponent.
The repertoire against the French Defence is based on 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 exd5 4.Nf3
The author's suggestion is to go for the Exchange variation! For many years, it was considered a dry continuation, and it was used by White when he wanted to force a draw. However, nowadays some new paths have been discovered and 3.exd5 became a serious and very practical variation to fight against the French.
This repertoire brings a lot of practical value since it can be used also against the Petroff Defence. The starting position of our repertoire against the Petroff is being reached after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.d3 Nf6 5.d4
Usually Black continues with d6-d5 and the game transposes directly into a French exchange. The authors also cover Black's.
The recommendation against the Caro-Kann is Jobava's favourite Panov Attack arising after 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4
As we will see the arising positions are very interesting from the strategic point of view, and what is also important is the fact that Black players don't have too much experience in these structures as they are rarely played.
The course follows the following structure:
15 Minutes Repertoire
In this section, GM Pier Luigi Basso presents the entire repertoire in 15 minutes. After watching the video and studying the PGN file, you will be able to start playing the repertoire even before consulting the theoretical chapters.
Live Baadur Blitz Challenge
Experience the repertoire in action through blitz games played and commented on by GM Baadur Jobava. These games provide insights into Baadur's approach to the positions and demonstrate our lines in real-time scenarios.
The database also includes 14 theoretical chapters, 15 interactive test positions, a Memory Booster, and a Video Version (4h and 52min Running Time).
