GM-Ioannis-Papaioannou-33b9a5b0fb

The camp of GM Papaioannou Practical 1.d4 Repertoire for White - Part 1 is already a digital product.

This product includes all the videos from the workshop as well as the PGN file related to the training sessions. Overall, the material consists of 10.5 hours of video and a PGN database, which includes 174 files!

You will find the following lectures:

✅ Complete Repertoire against Benoni and Old Benoni

✅ Practical Repertoire against the Benko Gambit

✅ Play 4.e3 against Nimzo-Indian Defence - Part 1

✅ Play 4.e3 against Nimzo-Indian Defence - Part 2

✅ Easy-to-Learn Repertoire against the Gruenfeld Defence

✅ Solid Repertoire against King's Indian and Old Indian - Part 1

✅ Solid Repertoire against King's Indian and Old Indian - Part 2

Now, we shall take a look at the different lectures.

Complete Repertoire against Benoni and Old Benoni

This lecture covers Modern Benoni and Czech Benoni. Even though these openings are considered risky at the top-level, every tournament player should be very well prepared with White.
This lecture, will provide you with easy-to-learn and very practical repertoire for White. As usual, knowing plans and ideas will be more important than memorization of concrete theory.

Below, you shall see one of the model examples.

Practical Repertoire against the Benko Gambit

The Benko Gambit is one of the most common opening among club players. The suggestion of Papaioannou is based on 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 b5 4.cxb5 a6 5.b6

Benko-1-4908a165df

By returing the pawn, White immediately starts fighting for a slight but stable positional advantage. You can play this line without the need to remember theoretical lines. The biggest advantage of this system is that it takes Black out of his comfort zone. Your opponent will not be able to obtain the Benko type of play he is dreaming of.

Below, you shall see one of the model examples.

Play 4.e3 against Nimzo-Indian Defence - Part 1

Against the Nimzo-Indian Defence, Papaioannou suggests the Rubinstein System which arises after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.e3

Rubinstein-1.1-8cff30e7ff

We can say that this is White's most popular weapon against the Nimzo-Indian Defence. White has many ways of playing this variation. For the purposes of this repertoire, GM Ioannis Papaioannou chose a reliable line that does not require deep concrete knowledge.

In the first Nimzo-Indian Defence lecture, Papaioannou examines the setups based on ...d7-d5. His suggestion is 4...0-0 5.Bd3 d5 6.a3!?

Rubinstein-2-b75451220a

This is the first main position that we want to achieve. The idea is to grab the bishop pair at the cost of doubling the pawns, but then undouble the pawns on the next moves and try to make use of the long-term bishop pair advantage. In the lecture, you will get a very deep understanding of how to handle the arising structures.

Here is one of the model games.

Play 4.e3 against Nimzo-Indian Defence - Part 2

Let's get back to the initial position of the Rubinstein Variation.

Rubinstein-1.1-8cff30e7ff

In this part of the Nimzo 4.e3 repertoire, we deal with the lines without ...d5 for Black, or with ...d5 combined with ...c5. For instance, against 4...b6, the suggestion of Papaioannou is 5.Nge2. In this lecture, you will see how to fight for a small advantage against this line. Another important direction is 4...0-0 5.Bd3 c5 6.Nge2. In this line, White is often forced to fight for a slight edge in a symmetrical structure. Papaioannou explains how we should put pressure in this type of position.

Below, you shall take a look at one of the examples.

Chess Viewer UG98UV05U4PWJBHQSEL53GE9IIRVG9IC

Easy-to-Learn Repertoire against the Gruenfeld Defence

The Gruenfeld Defence is one of the most challenging responses to 1.d4. Beeing very well prepared, the Gruenfeld players are usually looking for dynamic play. Therefore, Papaioannou has put in a lot of time and effort to find a solid and reliable system that you can use in the long run.
The starting position of our repertoire arises after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 4.Nf3 Bg7 5.e3 0-0 6.Qb3

Rubinstein-3-eb42e1962b

A very interesting positional line for White. We get it completely by force and Black needs to know the only good move here. Even if Black knows the best lines, we get interesting strategic positions with various plans for both sides. In other words: A great practical choice!

Here is one of the examples.

Chess Viewer B1135OJQZ6HM302HZBELF7XBH31KAG1Y

Solid Repertoire against King's Indian and Old Indian - Part 1 and 2

In the last two lectures, GM Ioannis Papaioannou covers the King's Indian and Old Indian Defences. Against both openings, he suggests the same setup.

The starting position of the repertoire against King's Indian Defence arises after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.Nf3 0-0 5.Bg5

Rubinstein-4-e0677c24f9

The so-called Smyslov System - the starting position of our repertoire. After the most natural 5...d6, White will continue with 6.e3.

Rubinstein-5-a536a455ee

Here is how Papaioannou comments on his opening choice, "Now we have a simple plan of development:
1) If Black plays normal moves like ...d6, ...Nbd7, ...e5, ...c6, etc, our plan is Be2, 0-0, Qc2!, and then possibly Rfd1 and/or h3. We play in the center and on the queenside (b2-b4). A typical motif in combination with Rd1 is also exchanging on e5 and playing Nd2-e4 - heading for the d6-square.
2) Whenever Black plays ...h6, we go Bh4 (and possibly h3 and Bg3!).
3) If Black plays ...c7-c5 at any moment, we play d5! with the deep positional threat of playing Nd2!. In this case, we would get a very good version of the Benoni and a clear advantage!"

The theoretical file, as well as all the model games, will provide you with a very deep understanding of this type of position.

Below, you shall see one of the model games.
