Setups with g2-g3 - Universal Solution for Black - Part 2
Following the success of the course Setups with g2-g3 - Universal Solution for Black - Part 1, we are excited to introduce the second and final installment of Igor Lysyj's repertoire against setups based on g2-g3. In this course, GM Igor Lysyj presents an exceptionally high-level repertoire specifically tailored to counter the Catalan.
This project is highly ambitious, representing the culmination of nearly 20 years of GM Lysyj's dedicated work on the Catalan. After extensive research and experience, he has finally decided to share his deep analysis. This repertoire aims to definitively address all of Black's challenges in the Catalan Opening. Without a doubt, this is one of the most comprehensive theoretical studies we have ever published at Modern Chess!
The starting position of the course arises after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 4.g3 Be7
In the introduction to the course, GM Lysyj writes, "The variation with 4...Be7 is one of Black's most reliable responses to the Catalan. It is frequently seen in World Championship matches and Candidates' Tournaments, and for good reason. Black's main strategic idea involves castling (0-0) and capturing the pawn on c4, which forces White to spend several tempos to regain material balance. During this time, Black can develop the bishop on c8 and secure a solid position. Despite the extensive theory surrounding this variation, the activation of the c8 bishop consistently helps Black find the right solution.
I incorporated the 4...Be7 variation into my repertoire in 2007, and it has never let me down. My experience indicates that White's most ambitious continuations are the lines with 6.Nc3 (Chapter 3), 6.0-0 dxc4 7.Qa4 (Chapter 7), and 6.0-0 dxc4 7.Qc2 a6 8.a4 (Chapters 9-12)."
The course consists of 12 theoretical chapters, 20 interactive test positions, a Memory Booster, and a Video Version (3h and 49min).
