♟️ Modern Chess Academy — July 2026 Program

The four pillars of the Academy continue in July, each advancing into its next stage.

1️⃣ Repertoire Builder — July Focus

Réti for White: Theoretical Knowledge – Part 2

👤 Coach: GM Grigor Grigorov 📅 Dates: 21.07.2026 & 28.07.2026 🔗 Event page: https://www.modern-chess.com/event/repertoire-builder-july-2026-repertoire-builder-theoretical-knowledge-part-2/72451/

The final stage of the six-month Opening Builder project completes the Repertoire Construction Phase. From February through May, the focus was on the fundamental structures behind the 1.Nf3 complex — Réti and Catalan-type formations, King's Indian and Grünfeld structures, English Opening positions with symmetrical setups, Hedgehog formations, and Maróczy-type structures. In June, that structural foundation began to convert into concrete theory.

In July, we complete that work. Part 2 covers the second half of the theoretical material and assembles the final repertoire — bringing the whole 1.Nf3 system together into a single, coherent weapon.

📅 Program Schedule

21.07.2026 — Paris | New York 🕒 17:30 – 19:00 | 11:30 – 13:00 — Theoretical Knowledge – Part 5 🕒 19:30 – 21:00 | 13:30 – 15:00 — Theoretical Knowledge – Part 6

28.07.2026 — Paris | New York 🕒 17:30 – 19:00 | 11:30 – 13:00 — Theoretical Knowledge – Part 7 🕒 19:30 – 21:00 | 13:30 – 15:00 — Theoretical Knowledge – Part 8 🕒 21:00 – 21:30 | 15:00 – 15:30 — Q&A Session

2️⃣ Strategy Wednesday — July Focus

From the Opening to the Endgame: Typical Endgames in the French Defense

👤 Coach: GM Ioannis Papaioannou 📅 Dates: 22.07.2026 & 29.07.2026 🔗 Event page: https://www.modern-chess.com/event/from-the-opening-to-the-endgame-typical-endgames-in-the-french-defense/82385/

The French Defense is defined by its endgames: the middlegame battles flow, again and again, into the same recurring family of endings. The backward d-pawn, the "bad" light-squared bishop, the queenside pawn majority, and the locked structures that suddenly open are not accidents of a particular game — they define whole classes of French endgames, for both colours.

This camp covers those recurring endgame structures across the French. You will learn how strong players steer the middlegame toward favorable endgames, evaluate the typical French structures and minor-piece imbalances, and convert small but durable structural advantages into full points. The focus is on the phase where French games are actually won and lost.

3️⃣ Tactical Thursday — July Focus

Strategic Calculation and Calculating Long Variations

👤 Coach: GM Swapnil Dhopade 📅 Dates: 16.07.2026 & 23.07.2026 🔗 Event page: https://www.modern-chess.com/event/tactical-thursday-july-2026-strategic-calculation-and-calculating-long-variations/32418/

Not all calculation is tactical. When there is a combination on the board, the moves announce themselves; the far greater challenge is calculation in quiet, strategic positions, where the candidate moves are not forcing and the evaluation at the end of a long line is a matter of judgment.

This camp trains exactly that — how to calculate accurately in strategic positions, and how to calculate long, branching variations without losing the thread. You will learn how strong players choose candidate moves when nothing is forced, calculate long lines to the point where a position can be judged, and combine calculation with positional judgment to evaluate what they find.

4️⃣ Guided Practice — July Focus

July opens a new cycle on the elements of positional play — the building blocks of strong strategic understanding, trained one theme at a time.

⭐ Why Modern Chess Academy

Most chess training is content consumption. The Academy is structure — the work is connected month to month, and every pillar reinforces the others. Live GM-led sessions every Wednesday and Thursday, weekly structured practice, modern opening updates, real game analysis, and a long-term repertoire-building project, all within one integrated system.

Improvement is cumulative. The Academy provides the structure that makes that accumulation possible.

This is not random content. This is chess training — the Modern Chess way.
