Strategy Wednesday addresses the typical endgames arising from the London, Torre, and Trompowsky — three opening systems bound by a common structural logic. Tactical Thursday trains calculation in defense and visualization, the two skills strong players rely on under pressure. Guided Practice continues the long-term cycle on the fundamentals of calculation. Repertoire Builder enters its theoretical phase — translating four months of structural understanding into the concrete preparation needed for tournament play.

The fifth stage of the six-month Opening Builder project begins the Repertoire Construction Phase. From February through May, the focus was on the fundamental structures behind the 1.Nf3 complex — Réti and Catalan-type formations, King's Indian and Grünfeld structures, English Opening positions with symmetrical setups, Hedgehog formations, and Maroczy-type structures. By the end of May, every typical pawn structure that a 1.Nf3 player will meet has been studied.
In June, we begin to convert this structural foundation into a complete, ready-to-play repertoire. June covers the first half of the theoretical material. July will complete the theory and assemble the final repertoire.

The London System, the Torre Attack, and the Trompowsky are often discussed separately, but they are bound by a deeper structural logic. In all three, White commits the queen's bishop early, and the resulting middlegames produce the same family of pawn structures — most often Carlsbad formations, where the c-pawn for d-pawn exchange defines the long-term character of the position.
This camp covers the recurring endgame structures across these three systems. You will learn how strong players steer the middlegame toward favorable endgames, evaluate typical Carlsbad-related structures, and convert long-term structural advantages into full points. The focus is on the phase where games in these practical opening systems are actually won and lost.

Defense demands sharper calculation than attack. When you are attacking, several moves usually work; when you are defending, often only one does. The margin for error is smaller, and the consequences of a single miscalculation are immediate.
This camp trains exactly that — how to calculate accurately under defensive pressure, and how to develop the visualization skill that makes deep calculation possible. You will learn how strong players approach defensive positions, identify hidden resources in apparently lost positions, and train the underlying capacity that separates strong calculators from average ones.
Basics of Calculation – Part 2 Coach: Siegfried Baumegger
June continues the long-term cycle on the fundamentals of calculation that began in May. Where Part 1 returned to first principles — candidate moves, priorities, accurate calculation of short lines, and typical mistakes — Part 2 builds on that foundation with the methods strong players use to refine their thinking.
