GM Ioannis Papaioannou continues his acclaimed Strategy Wednesday series this June with a highly instructive and universal topic — Stonewall Structures. This edition, Understand the Stonewall Structures, is designed to help players master one of the most strategically rich pawn formations in chess — whether playing with or against it.
With his trademark structured and clear teaching style, GM Papaioannou will guide you through the key strategic concepts, plans, and piece maneuvers for both colours. A special emphasis will be placed on understanding how the structure arises and how to navigate the transition from the opening to the middlegame.
You will see that the Stonewall structure can appear in a wide range of openings, including the Dutch Defence, London System, Exchange Slav, Semi-Slav, and Catalan. Understanding this formation will significantly improve your ability to handle similar positions across your repertoire.
As in previous editions, the camp will take place over two Wednesdays — 18.06.2025 and 25.06.2025, with two sessions on each day. After each session, participants will receive 10 test positions designed to reinforce the key concepts from the lectures. The final PGN file will include all test positions with detailed solutions.
Strategy Wednesday is part of the Modern Chess Academy, which means that all Academy members receive free access to the live lectures and the complete digital product released afterward.
